How to play Path of Exile
You never heard of Path of Exile and you want to know what it is? Or you want to play it but you don’t really know the game? Well, I am here to show you what Path of Exile is and some basic things you will need to know when starting to play it.
What is Path of Exile?
Path of Exile, often referred to as poe, is an online action role-playing game. You are playing as an exile, sent to Wraeclast, a dark place where exiles are taken.
Chosing your character
When starting you will chose your first character, you can always “make” another character later, but that one starts from zero. The only thing you will have to do is choose a class, this changes the appearance and the stats your character starts with, as well as where you start in the skill tree, but more about the skill tree later. Remember that this really does not matter, especially with your first character. You can for example turn a witch into a melee fighter with the skill tree. I recommend you to just pick the one you think looks cool.
The reason why I don’t give you to many info about characters is because your first character is just for learning the game and you will probably make another one once you learned the game and really know what you want and like.
Playing the game
When you start playing, you will get a decent tutorial. I will give some tips and tricks though.
1)The flasks: you have 2 types of flasks, mana and health flasks. Health is basically the resource you need to live. Mana is the resource you need to cast spells. You can use pots by pressing the number you connected it to, normally 12345. Killing monsters refills your flasks.
2) Spells and auto-attacks: When you start off, you will get gems which makes you have spells. Once you have about 3 spells, I would recommend to unbind auto-attack. Because they do allmost no damage and normally, most spells don’t have a cool-down.
Skill tree, items and gems
There are items, like in most mmo’s. These give stats, like in most mmo’s. But, they have sockets. Now what are sockets and why are they important? I talked earlier about gems, well sockets are the places you put gems so you can use them. You have 3 types of sockets and gems: red, blue and green. A gem can only be placed in a socket of the same coulour, logic right?
Now, you have linked sockets, and these are important for support gems, support gems don’t give you another spell, but they empower the spells that are in sockets linked to their sockets. A support gem only supports gems that are of the same colour.
Another note about items is that you have normal items, magic items, rare items and unique items. Each having better buffs to your character according to their rarity.
Now, you have the passive skill tree, it is very big but don’t let it imtimidade you. I will tell you now how you can know what stuff you need in the tree and what items with which links you want.
With this method, you will first need to pick a main spell. Then, go to the link for your class.
Now, find the build with the spell you chose, if it isn’t in your class, choose another spell.
When you find a build, your goal now is to get the same passive skill tree, items, sockets and gems as them.
I think I have covered all stuff with this, let me know in the comments if I forgot someting and if you want to read more specific things and/or walktroughs for poe.
